Master of Arts in specialist musical interpretation

The Master’s in specialist musical interpretation is a very demanding course, providing training to a small number of students who have displayed exceptional capabilities in terms of artistic or research activity.  

There are two types of skills that candidates will be asked to show during the selective admissions tests: a remarkable artistic personality and/or, depending on the field, the ability to conduct research leading to innovative musical practices.

The amount of study comes to a total of 120 ECTS, half of which are dedicated to the study of the main subject. The main subject may be:

  • The practice of a modern or historic instrument,
  • The practice of modern or historical singing,
  • Musical practice and research in the field of medieval music,
  • Conducting an orchestra,
  • Conducting a choir.

Specialised choir conducting

This course enables a small number of students to prepare for directing professional choirs (independent ones or choirs at opera houses).

Specialised orchestral conducting

This field offers a small number of students showing the abilities required training that leads to the conducting of professional orchestras (symphony orchestras, chamber orchestras, operas, specialist ensembles).

Medieval music

This field is open to students showing an ability to call upon the medieval repertoire, both from the point of view of philological research and that of artistic shaping.

The playing of historical instruments

This field, open to instrumentalists and singers with a classical background, enables them to specialize in the playing of historical instruments or in historical song.

Soloist

This field prepares students for activity as a soloist and requires students to show exceptional artistic capabilities. The final skills are located at the level of international competitions.
