Master of Arts in musical pedagogy

The Master of Arts in musical pedagogy prepares students for careers in the teaching of music at music schools and conservatoires, up to the level of an ‘Haute école de musique’ or at a public school up to level II.

The HEM’s Master of Arts in musical pedagogy offers three possible areas of study:

Training that leads to instrumental, vocal or theoretical teaching at music schools and conservatoires up to the level of higher schools of music;
Training, the Master’s in music in schools, which leads to the teaching of music at state schools up to the secondary II level;
A course that makes it possible to shape Jaques-Dalcroze’s active teaching method, which encourages musical apprenticeship through bodily movement.

Whatever the field of study chosen, the HEM’s teaching courses have the main objectives of offering the students:

First-rate artistic training;
A solid theoretical and practical apprenticeship in education sciences;
Immersion in practice, thanks to observation and internships.

Orientations

Vocal or instrumental teaching

This area of study bestows on students the qualifications necessary for teaching an instrument, singing or music theory at music schools or conservatoires, up to the level of higher schools of music.

Music in schools

The music in schools area of study explores the practical teaching tools necessary for teaching music at state schools.

Jaques-Dalcroze Rhythm

This area of study enables the students to get their training in a setting of active pedagogy, promoting musical learning through bodily movement and improvisation.
