This field prepares students for activity as a soloist and requires students to show exceptional artistic capabilities. The final skills are located at the level of international competitions.
The soloist field is aimed at a small number of students aiming to have careers as freelance performers, who will need to appear in recitals and concerts with an orchestra or on stage in an opera.
Besides the artistic skills normally required by performing on stage (instrumental or vocal know-how, stylistic skills and artistic sensibility), a career as a soloist is for individuals with strong, original and charismatic personalities.

On top of the general conditions for admission to the Master’s, candidates must have prior experience of the stage and references from the professional world (professors, renowned artists, etc.). They must also present their artistic project and defend it.
Admission may be granted upon completion of a recital featuring works in a variety of styles that are representative of the instrument’s entire repertoire, performed before an internal jury at the HEM whose members come from different instrumental and vocal departments.
Main course
In this Master’s degree, the practice of music at a high level is the main priority. This module is therefore centred around individual instrumental or vocal classes.
Special training
In this module, the students perfect their performance in musical collectives, whether in small ensembles or larger music groups.
Complementary and optional training
In this module, a portion of the free choice is left to the student. Depending on what their Master’s project is and what their professional project is, students can choose between several topics proposed by the HEM’s tutors within the framework of research workshops, between several classes that could supplement their training and between several methods of obtaining validation of their preparation for the profession.
A requirement that is specific to the Master’s degree as a soloist is the test with an orchestra. The students taking this Master’s have the opportunity to play with an orchestra, in addition to doing two solo recitals. These three productions, all of which will be public performances, form part of the student’s Master’s project, and are also supplemented with written work regarding the interpretative choices made.
