Bachelor of Arts

The first cycle of professional studies consists of three years of studies and enables students to obtain the degree of Bachelor of Arts in music. This initial course, which is a generalist course, not a specialized one, is available for the following main subjects:

  • Modern instruments
  • Historical instruments
  • Singing
  • Composition
  • Composition for images
  • Orchestral conducting
  • Choir conducting
  • Music and musicology

A Bachelor of Arts in music and movement, specializing in Jaques-Dalcroze rhythm, is also available. This course offers training for future music teachers and teachers of rhythm in primary schools.

The Haute école de musique de Genève offers a course lasting three years leading to a Bachelor of Arts degree in music and constituting 180 ECTS credits.

Bachelor of Arts in music and movement

The Bachelor of Arts in music and movement is based on the active, artistic teaching style developed by the Swiss musician and educator Emile Jaques-Dalcroze.   The teaching is delivered by the HEM, working closely with the Institut Jaques-Dalcroze.
