The Cornetto of Victor-Charles Mahillon

This video was produced as part of the HEM's research project A New Look at Performance Practices for the Cornetto led by our professor Lambert Colson.

The instrument collection at the Brussels Museum of Musical Instruments (MIM) contains a curiosity: a cornetto dating from the late 19th century, designed by collector and curator Victor-Charles Mahillon. Gery Dumoulin opens the museum's archives to explore the curiosities of the Mahillon collection. An X-ray scan in the ZEISS laboratories in Breda gives us a glimpse of the unique craftsmanship of an instrument that was designed to ‘correct the flaws’ of the instruments of the time.
