At the source of sound: a study of the facsimile of a pianoforte by Johann Andreas Stein (1783)

A research project by the Haute école de musique de Genève - Neuchâtel (HEM) under the direction of Pierre Goy.

This video presents the mechanics of a pianoforte by Johann Andreas Stein, a facsimile of which was made by Matthieu Vion's workshop from several instruments all built in 1783 and held in museums and a private collection. The use of a high-speed camera and the production of sonograms provide an insight into the particularities of the sound of 18th-century early keyboard instruments.
