Performer-composer

Designed with a view to conceptualising new trajectories in creative music, this discipline offers an integrated approach to performance and composition and/or improvisation.

Performer-composer students have two main discipline teachers, one for performance and the other for composition and/or improvisation. The small number of students selected for this demanding programme allows them to benefit from personalised support.  Chosen with the student's personal project in mind,  the two teachers are in constant communication to ensure consistent monitoring of the student's progress during their two years of study.
This advanced programme offers students a unique opportunity to develop and refine their personal artistic voice. The emphasis is on the development of each student's personal technique, including original improvisation systems, original notation methods or new techniques and syntheses, such as the use of mixed media. Students perform their own creations, either as soloists or in ensembles.
During their two years of study, student performers-composers have the opportunity to participate in several major experimental and collective creation projects. Fruitful collaborations have been established with several musical institutions in French-speaking Switzerland: the contemporary music ensemble Contrechamps, the contemporary creation festival Archipel, the Fanfare du Loup, etc.   A research residency takes place each year at La Manufacture - Haute école des arts de la scène - which offers intensive exchanges between student performers-composers and student directors and choreographers.
