Résumé

Ascanio is a disciple of Benvenuto Cellini, a legendary Florentine sculptor whose genius and loves enjoyed great lyrical good fortune. Ascanio is also the title of the great lyrical drama by Camille Saint-Saëns, created in 1890 on the basis of the play by Paul Meurice, abridged and recomposed several times, despite the protestations of its author. It is a magnificent and undeservedly overlooked work, blending Italian lyricism, Wagnerian influence and French elegance. For the first time, a passionate orchestra conductor, Guillaume Tourniaire, surrounded by a very high-level and entirely French-speaking distribution team, accompanied by the Orchestra and Choirs of the Haute Ecole de Musique et du Grand Théâtre de Genève, will enable you to hear the first complete performance of the version that adheres to the handwritten manuscripts from 1888, recorded with rigour and enthusiasm by B Records.
