The SELENUM research project, carried out at the Haute École de Musique de Genève (HEM), aims to analyze the impact of digital technologies on admissions processes, particularly since the widespread use of video-based distance entrance examinations. The study is structured around three main lines of research. The first will focus on applicants' experience of this new selection method. It will measure the extent to which the switch to a remote video format, as opposed to face-to-face competitions, influences candidates' perception of the fairness of the process, their chances of success and how they feel about it. The second axis will analyze the perspective of EMH juries and teachers and the adaptation of evaluation criteria to the video format, as well as teachers' perceptions of the profiles of students admitted following this change in admission modality. Finally, the third line of research will focus on the impact of the distance selection process on the HEM as an institution. The study will analyze the consequences of this evolution on the organization, recruitment and image of the HEM, as well as on the quality of teaching. In particular, the study will seek to determine whether the switch to a distance selection process has influenced the number of applications received, as well as the geographical and socio-cultural diversity of candidates. A complementary, cross-disciplinary study will serve to initiate a framework for analyzing the ethical issues involved in admissions processes based on digital technologies. In conclusion, the SELENUM project aims to shed in-depth light on the multiple implications of integrating digital technologies into admissions processes at the HEM. By examining aspects of equity, sustainability and impact on training, this project provides essential food for thought on the evolution of higher music education in the digital age.
