Résumé

The Haute école de musique de Genève has chosen to concern itself with the challenges of being a professional orchestra musician, at a time when the role is undergoing major transformations; and also to examine how best to transmit this to future generations of musicians. Through this work, Patrick Lehmann and Aurélien Poidevin have let numerous parties involved in musical life say their piece, in order to instigate an unprecedented deep dive into this issue that is structured around the key moments in a career: training, competition and the day-to-day life of an orchestra musician. In connection with this, particular attention has been paid to the ways in which orchestra musicians are recruited, with behind-the-scenes immersion in these unusual challenges, documented by some unprecedented photojournalism. Musiciens d’orchestre sets out a selection of texts and interviews illustrated with portraits created by Denis Félix with students and professors from the Haute école de musique de Genève, along with musicians, conductors and key players in musical life in Switzerland, France and Germany, from, inter alia, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, the Orchestre de chambre de Lausanne and the Berliner Philharmoniker.

This works presents a selection of texts and interviews drawn up and collected under the direction of Patrick Lehmann and Aurélien Poidevin. Photographs by Denis Félix
