Arno Mathies is a Swiss born designer based in Geneva, Switzerland. Arno’s work is informed by the potential output of production processes and material properties. He intends to question the function of an object or spaces by exploring the limits of form, use and perception. After completing his Masters at the Royal College of Art in Design Products, Arno met Max Frommeld and in 2012 they established their design studio.Their shared interest in functional design and folding technologies led to a series of creative collaborations. From 2011-15 they worked on several self-initiated projects and collaborated with commercial clients from the automotive industry and the rental construction industry, to develop and produce a series of ‘flat pack’ design accessories that utilize plastic hinging technology.
Two of their self-initiated projects, Folding Boat and Folding Sled, were nominated for the Federal Swiss Design Awards; Folding Boat in 2013 and Folding Sled in 2014. Folding Boat was shortlisted as product of the year, 2011, by It’s Nice That, shortlisted as best life enhancing product, 2012, by Wallpaper* Magazine and was nominated by Conde Nast for innovation design awards 2012. Folding Sled, recently received two prices, the special price of the Jury and the Eyes on Talent, from the Design Parade 10 at the Villa Noailles. Their final project together, Panel discussion, the result of a one-year residency at the Villa Noailles was awarded the 2017 Swiss design Awards price.

Since 2014 Arno Mathies opened his own studio in Geneva, specializing in design consultancy, personal projects, private commissions and space design. He has been working closely with HolzerKobler for several of their exhibitions in Geneva & Lyon (MEG, MICR Genève, Musée des Confluences Lyon).
