"Deadline" an hybrid game created by Valérie Pierrehumbert, MA Media Design

September 2017

Deadline is a hybrid game created by Valérie Pierrehumbert, exploring the trials and tribulations of a graphic designer. The goal is to beat the other players by finishing the project before the deadline! The game is played with a set of cards and a tablet application. To progress in the game, the player has to to perform a series of required tasks.

This game has been presented  in April at Salone ludico 2017 in Milan and will be shown during the Design Days 2017 at the New HEAD Campus, Av de Châtelaine 7,  from 28 September to 1st October 2017, amongst a selection of Master Media Design students projects.

The card game represent the professional network of a graphic designer. The “SMS” cards allow the players to slow the progress of their opponents, while the “Call” cards are used to unblock these situations. Each attacked player can defend himself with the inverse card of the corresponding color.

The application plays an integral part in the game. At the beginning, a project is given to each player. The app presents the timetable and final deadline. It also allows players to select the tasks they need to perform. The application knows the progress of each player. It may not be the best strategy to take an early lead... It's up to you how you choose to play!
