Née en 1982 à Genève, Maryam Goormaghtigh étudie la réalisation à l’INSAS, à Bruxelles. Après plusieurs courts et moyens métrages, dont Bibeleskaes, coréalisé avec Blaise Harrison, Le Fantôme de Jenny M, sélectionnés à Visions du Réel respectivement en 2006 et 2009, elle réalise Heart of Qin in Hong Kong en 2011 pour le Hong Kong arts Development Council et collabore à la revue documentaire Cut Up d’ARTE ainsi qu’au web-documentaire Code barre (FIPA d’or 2012 à Biarritz). Elle travaille régulièrement comme cheffe-opératrice sur des séries documentaires et réalise en 2017, avec Sidonie Garnier, une série intitulée Fashion Geek (ARTE Creative). Avant la fin de l’été, son premier long métrage sorti en salles en 2017, est présenté en première mondiale à Cannes en ouverture de l’ACID puis dans plus de 30 festivals à l’international. Il remporte plusieurs prix dont le Emerging Swiss Talent Award au ZFF, le prix Fiction/NonFiction aux Docs Against Gravity et une mention spéciale au BFI London Film Festival. Il est nommé aux Trophées Francophones du Cinéma 2018 et au Prix du Cinéma Suisse 2018 ainsi qu’au Prix de la presse internationale dans la catégorie Meilleur Film Francophone. Lauréate d’une bourse culturelle Leenaards, Maryam Goormaghtigh développe actuellement un long métrage de fiction.

Born in Geneva in 1982, Maryam Goormaghtigh studied Film Direction at INSAS in Brussels. Following several short and medium length films, including Bibeleskaes, co-directed with Blaise Harrison, and Le Fantôme de Jenny M selected at Visions du Réel respectively in 2006 and 2009, she directed Heart of Qin in Hong Kong, in 2011, for Hong Kong Arts Development Council and collaborated on the ARTE channel’s documentary review Cut Up as well as on the web documentary Code barre (FIPA d’or 2012 at Biarritz). She works regularly as a DOP on documentaries and with Sidonie Garnier, she directed a documentary series entitled Fashion Geek (ARTE Creative). Before summer ends, her first feature film, released in 2017, was presented as a world premiere at Cannes, opening the ACID programme, and travelled in over 30 festivals internationally. It won the Emerging Swiss Talent Award at ZFF, the Fiction/Non-Fiction Prize at Docs Against Gravity and was given a special mention at the BFI London Film Festival. It was nominated at the Trophées Francophones du Cinéma 2018 and for the Swiss Film Award 2018 as well as for the International Press Prize in the Best French Language Film category. Awarded a Leenaards cultural grant, Goormaghtigh is currently developing a fictionial feature film.
