Various studies confirm that productivity in the construction sector, compared to other industrial branches, does not increase. The perception of contracting authorities is, that project objectives in terms of deadlines, budget and quality seem difficult to achieve. It should be nevertheless mentioned, that the creation of a unique and customized product adds complexity. In addition, the industries’ low margins make investments difficult.
Present in the market for centuries, construction methods show potential for innovation. The MIC group has set itself the mission to develop and promote innovative approaches. We rely strongly on numerical tools, since the integration of digital models has taken an important place in project management.
Main research topics involve «classical» project management subjects like: construction economics, lean construction, analysis and management of risks and total life-cycle management of buildings. The group is also active to integrate digital tools and collaborative working methods. We go as far as to work on the convergence of «Building Information Modelling» (BIM) and territorial planning (InfraBIM, GeoBIM).
