The Innovative Construction Methods (MIC) group was created by the professors Bernd Domer and Lionel Rinquet to provide practitioners with efficient project management tools. With their practical experience, acquired during many years of activity for construction companies, they are convinced that a structure can be finished within deadline, planned budget and attain the desired quality level.
Results of research projects, covering subjects like risk management, management of building life-cycle, lean construction or BIM, have been transferred into courses for students on a bachelor's and master's level. The group’s development was strongly influenced by the boom of BIM as the future planning method and tool in Switzerland.
Our interest is mainly to promote collaborative work and the exchange of digital models between all actors in construction, including territorial aspects. Bernd Domer is co-initiator and active Professor of the first CAS in BIM coordination in Francophone Switzerland.
The MIC group contributes to the integration of the BIM methodology in the Swiss construction industry through its activity within the association Bâtir digital Suisse and buildingSMART Switzerland, promoting and developing standards, protocols and practices adapted to the Swiss construction industry.
Particular interest is paid to GeoBIM, namely the convergence of geographical information systems (GIS) and building information modelling (BIM). This combination has enormous potential for resolving the challenges of future urban societies.
