‘InesTable’ was a project realised in 1993 by architect Enric Miralles, consisting of a table designed for Le Magasin-CNAC as part of an exhibition in Grenoble. The leitmotiv for the exhibition was the design of objects that represented the methodology of their authors, who were invited to present their ideas at a round-table discussion. Miralles designed the actual table, the debating point, a piece of furniture that explains a particular work method in which the object becomes the protagonist of a versatile space and its associated discussions. Thanks to the interest of architect Smiljan Radic and the support of Miralles’ partner Benedetta Tagliabue, it was possible to produce a version of this iconic table in Chile in 2017.

In the summer of 2019, students from the Haute École d’Art et de Design (HEAD – Genève, Switzerland) and Universidad del Desarrollo (UDD, Chile) jointly developed five variations of InesTable in Santiago de Chile. The goal was to explore contemporary iterations of this table, a piece of furniture whose displacements have built a network of geographical, personal and intellectual relationships to become relevant as an architectural discourse in its own right.

HEAD students first travelled to Barcelona, where they visited the first version of InesTable at the Miralles/Tagliabue studio. Upon arriving in Chile, they joined students from UDD to visit the version at the office of Smiljan Radic. In the week that followed, they developed the five versions that were later exhibited at the Centro Gabriela Mistral.
