NEW HEADS
NOCLIP
Curator : Elisa Langlois
Through the work of six artists who recently graduated from HEAD — Agathe de Limoges, Mayotte de Saulieu, Salomé Engel, Matylda Florez, Idalecio Pereira, and Elsa Wagnières — the exhibition New Heads Noclip for Art Genève offers a reflection on spatial and structural configurations, their transitions, their potentials, and their pitfalls. In all the presented works, alongside each artist's individual narratives, the notion of liminality is explored in various aspects: as symbolic thresholds or transitions, and as disconnected spaces, suspended between multiple paradigms. These floating zones, where memories and fictions intertwine, evoke hybrid feelings between a sense of the unknown and an uncanny familiarity. They create a dialogue between memory and projection, inviting viewers to deconstruct and reinvent social structures, conventions, and perceptual boundaries. These spaces become grounds for experimentation, where the audience's expectations are disrupted, encouraging a rethinking of their relationship with place, time, and their very existence. The term Noclip is borrowed from the world of video games and describes a particular state in which a player can pass through the structures of a setting like a ghostly figure.
This metaphor of infiltration can be applied to the artists’ practices in the exhibition. The works they present question the rules, the constraints, and the interstices of the art fair: a space whose simple and modular structure serves as a place where narratives and successive functions coexist. In a process of mise en abyme, between the tangible and the imaginary, the exhibition reveals similarities with the fair's structure, its transitory and multifaceted nature.
A series of performances unfolds in spaces seemingly disconnected from the booth. These scattered interventions reinforce the perception of a global structure that is fluid and porous, where each work highlights the liminal aspects of the fair — halfway between institution and fiction, between collective and intimate spaces.
