Matériauthèque | HEAD & HEPIA – Partie céramique

January 2021
Joint project of the HEAD Interior Architecture programme and the HEPIA Architecture programme

Under the direction of: Javier Fernandez Contreras (HEAD) and Eric Amos (HEPIA)

In charge of the coordination: Shizuka Saito

Realization of the ceramic part: Isabelle Schnederle

This material library is located in Building A, Route des Franchises 2.

The importance of knowledge related to materials is no longer in question. The idea of this material library project is to make students more aware of the need to go directly to the material, to understand its properties, in order to make appropriate and innovative use of it.
This project aims to create a synergy for the development of a networked material library between HEPIA and HEAD. Indeed, the two institutions often collaborate and have many points in common. In particular, a particular need to work with materials.
The digital dimension of the project is formalised through a platform, leading to various sources of information: exhibitions linked to the materials consulted, articles, suggestions of similar materials. As far as the physical material library is concerned, it also leads the teaching staff to use these places of consultation as a support for their courses. On the other hand, students will be able to borrow this material when giving presentations, in order to enhance their presentations.
The aim is also to enrich the collection of existing materials and to acquire new ones. To this end, the material libraries will be affiliated with research laboratories and courses set up within the institutions to contribute to the development of the collection.
Once the platform is in place, we aim to continue the inter-school collaboration, allowing students from different backgrounds to work on the same subject: matter. Workshops will allow interaction between students, but also to feed the material library, because at the end of these courses, samples can be integrated into the material library.
