Master TRANS— Voyage d’étude Budapest

November 2018

TRANS– master’s study trip, November 2018, Budapes

On the occasion of an invitation made to microsillons to intervene among a european seminary organized by the Evens Foundation.

For this year study trip, TRANS– master’s students flew to Budapest in order to attend a european seminary dedicated to art-based pedagogies and more broadly art education conceived as a critical practice. Organized by The Evens Foundation, the seminary was hosted by Kava Drama/Theater in Education Association from the 5th to the 7th of November 2018.

The seminary which brought together a select group of 25 practitioners from Europe – including  Janna Graham (Goldsmith University, London) and Nora Sternfeld (documenta professor at the Kunsthochschule Kassel) – was an occasion for the students to meet with colleagues and to jointly investigate how artistic experiences, or aesthetic encounters, help to question and shape individual and collective perceptions, representations and attitudes.

During the three-days round-tables and workshops, the participants have considered pedagogies that use the arts to create a space open to questioning, difference, acknowledging conflicting views and multiple voices, thinking together, and working with heterogeneous groups.

As a platform for peer learning, the participants had the opportunity to share the obstacles and stumbling blocks they encounter in their practice and collectively think about strategies to overcome those, and the students could actively take part to this collective process of reflection, bringing up their own practices and concerns.
