Every day, we hear news about artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML), but what exactly are these technologies, and how can we integrate them into the field of interaction design? This workshop provides students with an introduction to the fundamentals of AI and its creative applications for practitioners in art and design. Through hands-on experiences, students experiment with various tools designed specifically for artists and designers, learning to effectively integrate machine learning into their projects.
Participants gain practical experience with accessible programming tools such as Teachable Machine, ml5.js, p5.js, and Runway while studying real-world examples that illustrate the fast-evolving landscape of machine learning in design. By the end of the workshop, students will be familiar with several key machine learning libraries and prototyping applications, which they can readily apply to their own projects.
The workshop ends with a demo day, where students present their design ideas and prototypes that use machine vision, image recognition, and other intelligent algorithms, demonstrating the potential of AI and ML in creating engaging interactive experiences.
