Lecture
"Jewellery"
What do you think of when you hear or see ‘jewellery’?
I’m going to take you through a small journey of jewellery thoughts illustrated with examples of my work.
As part of the MIDIS PARTAGE lecture series, you are cordially invited by the Product, Jewellery and Accessories Design department of HEAD – Geneve to attend Lin Cheung' lecture, ""Jewellery"", to be held on Monday, September 29th 2025 from 11:30 am. to 12:30 pm.
Lin Cheung
Lin Cheung is a jewellery artist from London. She graduated from the Royal College of Art with an MA in Goldsmithing, Silversmithing, Metalwork and Jewellery. She is Reader in Jewellery and Final Year leader on the BA Jewellery Design course at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London.
Underpinned by a detailed knowledge of materials and processes, Lin’s distinctive approach to making offers a witty and poignant response to the human condition. Jewellery is both creative output and a point of reference and inspiration, frequently making work as a result of a self-reference to jewellery. Lin quotes her ambivalent relationship with jewellery as a healthy way to understand and explore a vast and diverse subject that loyally sticks close to its archetypal roots but also has the impressive ability to morph and move with the times.
Her jewellery over the past 10 years is almost exclusively gemstone carving and lapidary, processes discovered by accident but has since become a strong basis for making and conceptualising ideas - the exclusive use of stone brings new challenges and fresh approaches to on-going and recurrent themes in her work.
Lin has won several awards for her work including The Arts Foundation Award for Jewellery in 2001 and The Herbert Hofmann Prize in 2018. She was a finalist for the BBC Radio 4 Woman’s Hour Craft Prize 2017 and is the 2018 recipient of The Françoise van den Bosch Award.
