Master students in Space and Communication present «Spirits – Excellent for the head», at the Milano Design Week 2023 from 17 to 23 April at the House of Switzerland in the Brera district, in the heart of Milan.

Spirits – Excellent for the head aims to put the spotlight on women designers, who are often overlooked in the history of design. The term “spirits” refers as much to alcohol, wit and the soul, and the exhibition celebrates the art of designing a glass and creating a cocktail in a joyful dialogue between the living and ghosts.

A series of seven blown glasses inspired by seven women designers will be exhibited in a set design that features a playful and political perspective on the illicit consumption of spirits by women (as at the time of the Prohibition in the United States) while paying a vibrant tribute to the talent of women designers.

Each glass made by the students holds a specific cocktail and pays tribute to such women designers as Ray Eames, Daisy Ginsberg, Eileen Gray, Anab Jain, Sophie Taeuber-Arp, Magdalene Odundo and Valentine Schlegel.

A project led by Alexandra Midal with Antoine Foeglé, Emma Pflieger, Mathias Zieba and Jonathan Bornand, assisted by Margaux Janin, featuring the following MA students in Space & Communication: Joseph Curle, Luna Déléani, Émile Démerliac, Adèle Guilbault, Camille Hoffmeister, Victoria Jospin, Chiara Kocis, Hannah Mackaness, Zorana Mitrovic, Chirine Samii, Carla-Marie Savaris, Constance Thiessoz, Lovena Vedrine, Noee Zahavy

The graphic design was carried out by Anette Lenz, Demian Conrad, Xavier Erni and Sam Fagnart with Bachelor students in Visual Communication Loan Bontron, Léa Delescluse and Eva Meylan.
