Contemporary Japanese Architecture in Switzerland

Thursday 16 October 2014

Spiral gallery
Tokyo

This exhibition will present formal architectural realizations in Switzerland by contemporary Japanese architects. It will highlight the reason why these architects can build in Switzerland, presenting the open architectural competition system that is extensively used in Switzerland. It will also point on the meaning and influence these buildings have on the local environment.

For the sake of efficiency and legibility, we wish to focus on five recent projects of importance:

Sejima + Nishizawa / SANAA: Rolex Learning Center (Lausanne, EPFL campus)
Kengo Kuma: Under One Roof (Lausanne, EPFL campus)
Shigeru Ban: Tamedia Headquarters (Zurich)
Rietberg Museum (Zurich)
Swatch Headquarters (Bienne)
Omega production (Bienne)
Riken Yamamoto: The Circle, Zurich Airport (Zurich/Kloten)

Other events to come:
Lecture series Building in Context, panel discussion with the architects
Dates to be defined
Touring of the exhibition in Switzerland
Dates to be defined in 2015

Exhibition and talks produced by Archizoom EPFL and the Embassy of Switzerland in Tokyo, in collaboration with HEAD-Geneva.
