Trophée pour les Grands Prix du FIFDH

March 2018

For its 16th edition, the International Film Festival and Forum on Human Rights (FIFDH) has partnered with the Geneva School of Art and Design (HEAD) to create a trophy to be awarded to the winners of the Festival’s two major prizes.

The result of a contest launched by both the Festival and the HEAD – Geneva, the trophy is the work of French artist and HEAD alumni Clément Brazille who currently lives and works in Geneva. These two remarkable pieces will be awarded to the winners of the Geneva Grand Prize (presented by the City and the State of Geneva) and the Grand Prize for Fiction ( presented by the Hélène and Victor Barbour Foundation) during the closing ceremony of the FIFDH.

A MATERIAL RICH IN SYMBOLISM
To achieve this esthetic, the artist has reproduced the acronym of the FIFDH in porcelain to create an object that is abstract, with sleek shapes and enigmatic dimensions. A fine and translucent ceramic, porcelain is fragile and solid at the same time, a particularly striking analogy with human rights. Ceramics were also some of the first materials to be fashioned by the human hand centuries ago. The cradle of human rights, Geneva is also an epicenter of ceramics, thanks in particular to the Ariana Museum which houses one of the most important collections in Switzerland.
"As a partner of the FIFDH for years, the HEAD – Geneva is happy and proud of the trophy created by HEAD graduate Clément Brazille at the Experimentation and Research Center for Contemporary Ceramics (CERCCO)" said Jean-Pierre Greff, Director of the HEAD – Geneva. "The material used, the porcelain covered with enamels of different colors, very accurately crystallizes the precious, irreducible and fragile character of human rights."

Awarded for the first time in 2018, the trophy will be further developed for future editions of the festival.
