Art & Science: Illustrating Research
Teachers:
Clément Paurd, Sammy Stein
Supported by the popular science magazine The Science Breaker, the Art & Science Project brings together illustration students from HEAD and doctoral students from the Faculty of Science at the University of Geneva around a common ambition: to make scientific research accessible, readable, and engaging through illustration and comics.
Launched in 2019, the project is based on close collaboration between researchers, teachers, and illustrators. Each year, it begins at the Faculty of Science with a short presentation of their research by doctoral students, offering an overview of contemporary scientific topics from a variety of disciplines—from molecular biology to climate science. These presentations are the starting point for a visual translation project carried out by the students, who transform complex concepts into accessible and engaging images.
Distributed via The Science Breaker and institutional channels, the illustrations help to make research visible to a wider audience, at the crossroads of scientific mediation and contemporary creation.
