Quynh Bui earned the Prix La Redoute x HEAD and the Master’s Mercedes-Benz Prize!

The DEFILE HEAD 2018 that took place on November 9 attracted a large audience of 2'000 people, among them many professionals and journalists from Switzerland and beyond. 20 Bachelor and Master degree collections were presented In The Cube, the spectacular space located in the heart of HEAD’s new campus. During this exceptional show, two young graduates stood out: Josiane Martinho won the Bachelor’s Bongénie Prize and Quynh Bui earned the Prix La Redoute x HEAD and the Master’s Mercedes-Benz Prize!
 

Swiss and international fashion industry people and journalists on the lookout for new talents, fashionistas, specialized bloggers, parents and friends were able to discover the collections of students from HEAD’s fashion design department under the responsibility of designer Léa Peckre. The scenography, which also unveiled an exhibition of the Bachelor and Master graduates in Product Design / Jewelery, watch and accessories, was entrusted to Aurélie Monet Kasisi and Juliette Roduit, Interior Design graduate. The soundscape was created by DJ PuzuPuzu. 

At the end of the show, the awards ceremony revealed the results of the deliberations of a prestigious international jury, composed of:

The La Redoute x HEAD 2018 Awardwas given to Quynh Bui, a Master's graduate, offering her the extraordinary opportunity to create a capsule collection for La Redoute in 2019: "I love Quyhn’s universe, her architectural approach of the garment, the excessiveness of volumes. This gives a singularity to her creations and I am delighted that La Redoute is supporting it by editing a capsule collection for the Summer 2019,"said Sylvette Boutin Lepers, Head of Partnerships Creators & Image at La Redoute. 

The Bongénie Bachelor 2018 Award, with a grant of CHF 5,000, went to Josiane Martinho, a Bachelor graduate. The members of the 2018 Jury reward a poetic collection. "We were impressed by Josiane Martinho’s exploratory work with a singular attachment to objects that shows a free and bold artistic dimension overcoming the conventions,"said Aurélie Popper, Purchase Coordinator at Bongénie Grieder.  

The Mercedes-Benz Master 2018 Award, with a grant of CHF 10'000.-, was awarded by Patrick Bossart, Director of Communications for Mercedes-Benz Switzerland, to Quynh Bui. A double achievement for this talented graduate! Quynh Bui will also have the opportunity to exhibit her collection at the Who's NextShow in Paris in the young designers’ selection, from January 18 to 21, 2019. The entire jury was seduced by the relevance and coherence of Quynh's work. "This prize rewards Quyhn Bui’s audacity and sensitivity and we hope that it will accompany her in the realization of her future projects,"saidOlivier Theyskens, President of the Jury.

For the first time, the show has also featured the work of a HEAD alumna. Winner of theHEAD Master’s Mercedes Benz Award in 2016, Vanessa Schindlerearned a few more awards in 2017 with the Première Vision Grand Prize and the Public Prize of the Hyères International Festival of Fashion and Photography Award 2017 as well as a Swiss Federal Design Award. Vanessa Schindler presented her new collection, “Chapter 3: Frivolity”, designed for the Festival Internation de Hyères, which she created with the support of Chanel’s Métiers d’art, Lesage’s embroideries and Goossens’ jewellery.

Over 12 years, HEAD – Genève’s Fashion Department has evolved into one of the most sought-after training programmes in the whole world. According to the rankings of the Business of Fashion, HEAD – Genève now features among the best fashion schools in Europe.
