The project “Clearer Words”at the festival Graphic Matters

September 2017 to October 2017

Head – Genève teamed up with Graphic Matters to present “Clearer Words” - three projects expressing the agitation of a young generation of Swiss designers. This projects deal with urgent environmental and political matters and foster exchanges with the festival’s public.

Professors:
Anette Lenz, Rob van Leijsen

Students:
Océane André, Geneviève Bergeron, Samy Bouard-Cart, Valentine Clot, Cindy Correia, Shadya Emery, Emilie Excoffier, Sarah Fauriel, Catia Ferreira Barreiras, Clara Gilbert, Romain Graille, Coralie Grandjean, Soojin Han, Léa Hunziker, Nayon Kim, Alexandra Pinto, Nausicaa Planche, Manon Schaefer, Arthur Schwarz, Doris Simon, Anne-Soorya Takoordyal, Meret Watzlawick

“Save Our Souls” reflects on two realities which coexist side by side. Two groups of travelers; tourists and migrants, cross each other daily in the Mediterranean sea. A collection of headlines from different international media concerning both groups are exposed through an exemplary common object: the buoy. Leisure and safety buoys are disposed randomly, serving simultaneously as furniture and signboards. The installation brings to awareness this very urgent and paradoxical situation of leisurely riches and desperate flight, sharing the Mediterranean sea.

“Precious Hope” is a project about hope. In a time of global pessimism and uncertainty about the future, visitors are asked what they hope for in the next 50 minutes, 50 days or 50 years. The messages are collected, written on protest signs, and carried out in the center of Breda during a silent march of hope.

“Water Matters”  creates awareness of water as being an indispensable and scarce resource. Customised carafes are filled with manipulated—yet drinkable—water to make us conscious of its over-use and pollution. It will be served in the Graphic Matters restaurant.
