OpenTuning: Creative individuation through customizable interaction with generative music systems

September 2025 to August 2028

Leading institution: IRCAM Institute for Research and Coordination in Acoustics/Music
Project team: Cindy Coutant (HEAD – Genève)
Funding: ANR National Research Agency

The OpenTuning project, conducted with Ircam, aims to experiment with and develop interactive tools based on machine learning, enabling artists to calibrate generative sound systems in real time based on their artistic gestures and intentions. The challenge is to promote creative individuation through deep and adaptive human-machine interaction, in order to open up new perspectives for musical practice, as well as writing, performance, interactive installation, and sound design.
