Mauve Dose - Mur de Mimosa Echard / Matérnité, HUG Genève

July 2018

Production of more than 3,000 glazed stoneware tiles for the two English patios of the new HUG Maternity Hospital, in Geneva.

The work, installed in the two English patios of the new HUG Maternity Hospital, was made possible thanks to the budget allocated to the Cantonal Contemporary Art Fund (DCS) as part of the building's construction.
The 3’000 tiles constituting the work were manufactured by CERCCO, the centre for experimentation and realization in contemporary ceramics at the University of Art and Design - Geneva under the direction of Christian Gonzenbach in collaboration with Johan Pardo, Claire Mayet and Isabelle Schnederle.

Mimosa Echard's work is based on prints and moulds of plants, roots, lichens, medicines and objects found in the vicinity of Geneva. It thus links the building and its medical, social and symbolic anchoring to what forms its fundamental structure: the vast and complex network of chemical and biological processes that occur both within the body and in the outside world.
