Forget Me Knot

Building on my background in textile design and jewelry design, I developed my collection by combining metal and leather. The brass wires trapped between two pieces of leather are made to be discernible, to look like stripes or buckle details. They never quite make it through the leather though. “Forget Me Knot” took handles and straps as its starting point. First tied to the bag with knots, the bags’ handles expand to become the bag itself. Tied around the body as if enveloping it, this "bag handle" draws on the idea of the waist bag. Tied at the waist, the wrist, worn as a shoulder bag or attached to another bag, it is adaptable. During lockdown, cut off from access to certain materials and the school facilities, I had to think of a way to assemble the bags. The knots changed scale. I used small knots to connect the sides of the bags together. The knots replaced the seams and became elements.

The bag is a daily companion. It is precious because it contains our belongings. In this collection I tried to express through the choice of shapes, materials and colors our relationships to bags, our attachment for them literally transcribed here through the knot.
