Junior Design Research Conference (JDRC) at HEAD

November 2023

Recap on the HEAD – Genève’s 13th Junior Design Research Conference

The 13th Junior Design Research Conference (JRC) brought together MA students who follow a Master of Arts in Design program at a Swiss University of Applied Sciences. The Junior Design Research Conference started over ten years ago as part of the Swiss Design Network Symposia. This year’s 13th edition happened at the  HEAD – Genève, Haute école d'art et de design for a full day of 13 talks and workshops reuniting around 250 MA2 Design students of eight institutions:

FHNW Academy of Art and Design (Bâle)

HSLU Hochschule Luzern (Lucerne)

The conference provided across the day compelling insights into current and relevant research topics and methodological approaches at the master’s level. It also offered students an exceptional opportunity for informal exchange and networking between students based on their interests and practices.

The conference succeeded in its objective: instigate an awareness of different design disciplines, topics, approaches, and methods in the various stages of developing a master’s thesis. The morning was dedicated to students’ short presentations of their research topics, shedding light on the knowledge gap that their projects are dealing with, their research methodology, and the connections between practice and theory. The workshops carried out by the students for their peers in the afternoon allowed them to dive deeper into those topics. Finally, participants met for a social get-together and apéro in the evening.

Two HEAD students
Vilma Hubalek and Léonie Courbat, students at HEAD – Genève in Master en architecture d’intérieur (MAIA) and Master en media design presented their research and facilitated a workshop.
