Interior design of the RTS Sports department’s lobby

June 2016

Swiss Televison RTS asked HEAD to design the entrance hall of the Sports Department’s new building. Located on the Boulevard Carl-Vogt facing MEG, the Musée d’Ethnographie de Genève, the lobby opens onto a busy street. RTS wanted a project that invites the public to enter while reflecting the identity of the company.

This mandate has been managed during a workshop led by Georg Nickisch, Swiss architect from Graubünden, assisted by Saskia Zurcher. A first selection of the proposals made by the students was carried out by the client and six projects have attracted particular attention: those of Monja Panic, Paquita Barletta, Shizuka Saito, Robin and Diane Rongiard Voirin.

Finally Diane Voirin’s project was the one who best met the expectations of the RTS. She chose to work the theme of dynamism through an intervention of intersecting cables arranged along the wall. Their superposition result in an impression of movement when walking in the space. The materials and techniques are as many references to extreme sports such as sailing or climbing. The reception desk is made of irregular angles that give an impression of movement. The project plays with the combined qualities of strength and speed specific to elite athletes (The stools are from Heinrich Hocker of Panatom Gallery).

Diane Voirin has had the opportunity to follow closely all phases of the project realisation on the working site in collaboration with the client.

The contents of the wall screens have been produced in collaboration with students from the Visual Communication Department, under the direction of Camille Scherrer.
