Ira, a young Ukrainian refugee in Switzerland, revisits her fragmented memory and her family ties. A doll she has created in her own image becomes the sensitive link between her present and a past marked by a difficult relationship and a silent absence, that of her father.
Moreover, on April 18, 2026, HEAD – Genève will host a masterclass with Sergei Loznitsa at the Visions du Réel festival. A special guest of the 57th edition, the Ukrainian filmmaker will give a masterclass open to the public and students. A selection of his documentaries will also be presented during the festival, offering an opportunity to (re)discover the breadth and coherence of his work.
In his films, the Ukrainian director explores the history and memory of countries that emerged from the former USSR. Through a rigorous formal approach and a distinctive use of archival footage, he examines political upheavals, violence, and the scars left by the past. His cinema questions how History is constructed, how it sometimes repeats itself, and how it shapes collective memory.
