The Film Department of HEAD – Genève at the 2026 Festival de Cannes

The Film Department of HEAD – Genève is delighted to announce an outstanding presence at the 79th edition of the Festival de Cannes through several projects and talents from its network of alumni, guest lecturers, teachers and students.

The Bachelor film ALWAYS WANTED TO BE GOD, NEVER WANTED TO BE GOOD, directed by and, has been selected for the Cinef section of the festival (12–23 May). An official section dedicated to films made by students from film schools around the world, Cinef selects only 19 short films each year from more than 2,450 submissions. Presented before an international jury, these works embody the emerging generation of contemporary cinema.

In addition, the Film Department is very pleased to announce the selection of the short film project LE DERNIER AFFÛT by for the SFC Focus SCRIPT | Rendez-vous Industry – Cinéma de Demain. The film is produced by for Autre Terre Production.

Cinéma de Demain, a section dedicated to the next generation of international cinema, supports projects from schools around the world. Focus SCRIPT offers a platform for recent graduates of visual arts and film schools through a dedicated programme and tailored mentorship for screenplay development. It also fosters connections with potential partners — including (co-)producers, distributors, and professional platforms — through one-on-one meetings and targeted networking opportunities focused on the specific challenges of each project.

The programme brings together projects from the following schools: CinéFabrique (France), EICTV (Cuba), ESCAC (Spain), Le Fresnoy (France), HEAD – Geneva (Switzerland), KASK (Belgium), and Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (Indonesia).

The 2026 Cannes Film Festival will also spotlight several alumni and guest lecturers from the HEAD Film Department:

  • Palmyre Badinier, Production instructor in the Cinema Department at HEAD, and co-producer of the documentary GABIN by Maxence Voiseux, selected for the Directors’ Fortnight.
  • Aïda Captijn, alumna of the Bachelor in Film Directing, presents her graduation film DËMM at the industry rendezvous.
  • Lila Pinell, director and screenwriter, lecturer at HEAD, present at the Directors’ Fortnight with SHANA.
  • Caroline Ronzon, assistant director and lecturer at HEAD, also present for SHANA.
  • Jonathan Ricquebourg, Director of Photography and lecturer at HEAD, present with the film 9 TEMPLES TO HEAVEN by Sompot Chidgasornpongse.
  • Marine Atlan, director, and Anne Brouillet, screenwriter and lecturer at HEAD, present La GRADIVA (Critics’ Week).
