2019 Lisbon Architecture Triennale

October 2019 to December 2019

Curators: Javier Fernandez Contreras, Roberto Zancan
Project leaders: Dafni Retzepi, Thierry Buache

False Space is a project that experiments with notions of spatiality in the technical space of the elevator, developed as an associated project for the Triennale of Lisbon, entitled “The Poetics of Reason”. The project experiments with the fundamental relationship and the omnipresent architectural discourse between ornament and structure. Designed to explore the infinite field of uncategorised architectural possibilities that lie between these two seemingly opposing notions, the installation in the elevator at Culturgest offers a floating “false space”. Expanding the architectural vocabulary while loosing itself in a land of no constraints or gravity, the project reconsiders the notion of the “false” and asks: Can a non-structure be ornamental ?
