INTERIOR EQUALITIES
September 2024 to January 2025
This semester project explored the potential of spatial interventions to enhance existing architectural structures. It focused on addressing and rectifying architectural biases found in buildings either originally designed with such biases or transformed for new uses without considering equality. The primary aim was to identify and address shortcomings in existing places by first recognizing these biases and then developing innovative spatial solutions to ameliorate them.
Students in groups chose a specific topic. They defined a target group and selected an existing interior that required improvement. This project phase encouraged a personalized approach to applying the learned principles of equality and inclusion in interior architecture.
In this project, state-of-the-art technologies, including mixed reality headsets, were employed to draft and rearrange design concepts directly within the environment at a 1:1 scale. Students also learned to perform 3D scans of interiors, which were later used to implement and refine design solutions.
By the end of this project, students had gained hands-on experience in identifying and solving design problems related to gender and equality using advanced technology, preparing them for professional practice that valued inclusivity and innovation in interior architecture.
