After winning a "Pardino d'argente" in Locarno for his workshop film Better not kill the Groove, Jonathan Leggett, a student in the 2nd year of his Bachelor's degree in Cinema, will be taking part in the prestigious Doclisboa festival in October with his documentary "Sidney", co-directed with Luca Quiero, also a Cinema student.
Various HEAD Cinéma diploma films, in particular Mawtini by Tabarak Allah Abbas, are continuing their breakthrough:
After winning the "Opening Scenes" prize at Visions du Réel and the "Art & Humanité" prize, Mawtini is taking part in a number of prestigious festivals, including the IDFA in Amsterdam and the Animatou festival to be held in Geneva from 3 to 12 October 2024. His animation will also be screened on 20 October at the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris, at the next FIFF and at the 40th Warsaw International Film Festival in International Competition!
The graduation films Gavilàn by Myra Ana Lou Thiémard and Beutset target by Alicia Mendy, winners of the Best Swiss School Film Award at the Kurzfilmtage Winterthur 2023 and Best Director in the International Competition at the Rio de Janeiro International Short Film, are continuing their journey to international festivals - across several continents. HEAD alumni in Venice and in the running for the Oscars
In September, 2020 graduate Alexandra Simpson presented her first feature film No sleep till target in Venice, in international competition at Critics' Week. Her feature film was created in partnership with a number of HEAD alumni.
After Carmen Jacquier, a graduate of the Master Cinéma HEAD - ECAL, it is Klaudia Reynicke, also an alumna of the same programme, who will officially represent Switzerland at the next Academy Awards: her new film "Reinas" was nominated by an OFC commission on Wednesday 25 September as the official representative. Klaudia Reynicke is taking part in a number of the Film Department's juries this year.
