Materials & Prototyping Pool

The Materials Pool includes wood, metal, prototyping, fashion, and jewellery workshops, as well as CERCCO, the centre for experimentation and production in contemporary ceramics.

The workshops are spread over an area of close to 1500m2 that is entirely dedicated to the production of objects (from jewellery to architecture), the experimentation of techniques, and the discovery of wood, metal, polymers, and all associated materials. Students have access to loan shops with standard hand tools and power tools. In addition, the workshops are open to all students and offer high quality professional stationary equipment.

The five pools (centres of production and expertise), which provide both educational and technical resources, are at the heart of HEAD – Genève’s cross-curricular and transdisciplinary approach. Integrated into the teaching of all the departments at different levels, these pools are also places where students can benefit from technical assistance and professional advice in the realisation of their most varied and innovative projects. Support, from concept to realisation, is focused on the acquisition of know-how and the autonomy of the students, and addresses technical, artistic/design, sustainability, and methodological (project management) issues.

Each pool is staffed by a team of professionals (technicians, teaching artists, and designers) and is equipped with extensive production and design workshops, providing students with state-of-the-art specialist equipment.
