TypoLab - Yevgeniy Anfalov
Type designer
The TypoLab of the Visual Communication department at HEAD – Genève invites you to the conference: Kyiv Metro Fonts by Yevgeniy Anfalov, type designer (https://kyivtypefoundry.com), which will take place on Wednesday 29 October at 12.30pm.
This conference presents Kyiv Metro Fonts, a typeface family developed from a week-long student workshop organised during summer 2023. Considering Kyiv's metro stations as sites of typographic discovery, the project documents, analyses and reinterprets the system's original lettering to create a set of five digital typefaces, serving as vehicles for transmitting this urban history. The presentation addresses the family's roots in the city's past and present, the need for a critical and balanced approach to revival, as well as the reclamation of Cyrillic heritage from the Soviet era in Ukraine. Among the five typefaces, KTF Metro Roman served as a springboard for further development, extending the three-dimensional letter forms, interplay of light and experiments with colour font technology, offering a renewed vision of Capitalis Monumentalis through contemporary tools.

Since the release of LL Heymland with Lineto in 2020, he has collaborated with type foundries worldwide. KTF was notably commissioned to redesign a typeface for Leica. Anfalov has taught at HAW Hamburg and HfK Bremen, presented at ATypI, and regularly leads type design workshops internationally.
