Albertina Carri
A figure of the Argentine queer underground, Albertina Carri is an independent Argentine film director, born in 1973 in Buenos Aires. Associated with the second New Argentine Cinema movement of the 2000s, she has created a transgressive and activist body of work that is anarchic yet coherent. In 2003, her experimental documentary Los rubios received three awards at BAFICI and was subsequently presented at the Locarno, Rotterdam and Toronto festivals.

In 2005, Géminis, a fiction feature film, was selected for the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs. Her following feature film, La rabia, a family tragedy set in the pampas, was selected for the Berlin, Locarno and Biarritz festivals. Her film Las hijas del fuego won the Best Argentine Film Award at BAFICI. She campaigns with her wife, journalist Marta Dillon, for LGBTQ rights and visibility, establishing the production company Torta in 2010, and directs the Asterisco festival, which she founded in 2013.
