EPIC PICNIC is a project being carried out as part of the European Heritage Days, to be held in Geneva on 7 and 8 September 2024.
Celebrating the city's built heritage, students from the Master's in Interior Architecture (MAIA) are transforming Hentsch Park (the former football ground at Les Charmilles) into a large-scale neighbourhood picnic, surrounded by historic industrial buildings. The project explores the intersections between the city, its history, heritage, architecture and societal evolution.
EPIC PICNIC is inclusive, welcoming a plurality of human and non-human visitors of all ages, origins, genders, abilities and spheres of belonging. It illustrates cases of glocalization and intersections between high and low culture, with inclusivity central to ensuring accessibility and resonance across diverse demographics.EPIC PICNIC combines music, dance, sport, picnics, chess, pétanque, stargazing and film screenings with space, creating a day where past and present converge. Like the tango dance, where dancers navigate the same space while avoiding colliding, the mix of different activities and participants creates both complexity and beauty.
