Nightlife is the prompt. We'll start with music. To what extent does it participate in or escape the practices and spaces of art, design, the museum, and contemporary art centre? What insights and methodologies can design draw from it? In what ways is it (im)material? What role does it play in contemporary struggles?

We’ll then look at the relation between music, graphic design and fashion through the spaces that bind them together – (night)clubs. What functions do clubs perform? How does one describe the states and alternate realities it allows for? Finally, we'll look beyond nightlife, and touch upon notions of belonging, otherness, identity and spirituality.

Our conversation will build on the work of composer and artist Soraya Lutangu Bonaventure and graphic designer Jonathan Castro. Soraya, based between Switzerland and Uganda, and Jonathan, originally from Peru, now based in Amsterdam, are the guests of an online Talking Heads jointly organised by the Visual Communication and Fashion Design departments.
