On the occasion of the 5th anniversary of New Heads – Fondation BNP Paribas Art Awards

Dix / Zehn / Dieci Episode 6 : (I.C.) Intelligence collective
Featuring Josse Bailly, Pauline Beaudemont, Sacha Béraud, Roxane Bovet and Yoan Mudry, Serge Boulaz, Etienne Chosson and Johanna Blanc, Jean-Gabriel Cruz, Guillaume Dénervaud, Isabella Girtanner, Nelly Haliti, Simone Holliger, Horrible Bise, Sabrina Röthlisberger, Marco Scorti, Ramaya Tegegne, Camille Tsvetoukhine, Gaia Vincensini, Galaxia Wang

Since 2012, New Heads has helped support the efforts of some fifteen artists from the MA in Visual Arts at HEAD – Genève. The exhibition casts a retrospective and prospective gaze on an up-and-coming generation, enabling participants to cooperate in a context that fosters friendship and collective intelligence.
Bringing together New Heads winners and artists having received a Prize by newspaper Le Temps, original partner of the project, the exhibition is organised in three segments. The dense first segment is organised around a collective work, an exquisite cadaver created in situ, on which is hung some of the works, featuring recent pieces by guest artists. The second, more stripped-down segment focuses more directly on the collaborative approach. The third explores the archives of the Prize, based on materials (documents, press, books and publications) collected since 2012.

Each year, New Heads provide an artistic personality with the opportunity to design a collective exhibition with a group of graduate artists from the MA in Visual Arts at HEAD. The exhibition, which comes with a publication, provides the context for the award of two prizes worth up to CHF 12,000. A third prize, awarded by Le Temps, provides the winner with the opportunity to produce a manifold work distributed with the Swiss newspaper. Finally, a second exhibition, in partnership with the artgenève art fair, gives shortlisted artists some insight into the professional scene.

Since its inception, New Heads has been placed under the artistic direction of the following series of Swiss leading figures: Director of Kunsthalle Sankt Gallen Giovanni Carmine, Director of the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum at Michigan State University (East Lansing) Marc-Olivier Wahler, art critic, exhibition curator and Syz Collection curator Nicolas Trembley, artist Latifa Echakhch, and writer and freelance curator Jeanne Graff

All prize winners have donated one or several pieces to Fondation BNP Paribas, enhancing its collection of quality contemporary works. To celebrate the 5th anniversary of New Heads, the Foundation will exhibit these works in the lobby of the BNP Paribas Bank (2, place de Hollande, Geneva). The opening will also take place on Thursday 18 May 2017 from 17:00 to 21:00.
