"New light on Paolo Veronese and his Sala del Collegio decoration"
a lecture by Prof. Martin Gaier (Université de Bâle)

The famous ceiling of the Sala del Collegio in the Ducal Palace in Venice painted by Paolo Veronese (1575-78) represents a highly complex iconographic program never convincingly deciphered and interpreted. A recently discovered drawing by Veronese makes us able not only to clarify open questions of interpretation but also to reconsider problems of understanding and dissemination of programs of political and moral philosophy and to define the scope of the artist in this regard.
