Lucinda Childs, Choreographer
Lucinda Childs is one of the great characters of American dance. For over fifty years, the choreographer walks the paths of creation. Formed among others by Merce Cunningham, she became one of the leaders of the American "postmodern dance" in the 1970s. With her performances at the beginning of the adventure of the Judson Dance Theater, her shows, films and even operas - including the famous Einstein on the Beach with Bob Wilson - she has contributed to fill the most memorable pages of the choreographic repertoire.

Her creations match the structure of musical works composed by Philip Glass, Steve Reich or Henryk Gorecki, making visible the slightest variations of the repetitive music. She is interested in the geometry of the dance, she relentlessly cuts the space with ever similar paths - parallel, circles, diagonals - on which she builds a dense network of small repetitive movements. She uses repetition to immerse the viewer in a trance, transporting him further into an inner world.

Dance is considered her masterpiece, created on the music of Philip Glass and the scenography of Sol Lewitt. Created in 1979 for twelve dancers, this show will be presented for the first time in Switzerland for three exceptional evenings at the Bâtiment des Forces Motrices (BFM), on 1st, 2nd and 3rd February at 8.30pm, in collaboration with the Festival Antigel. Lucinda Childs will honor us with a visit to the HEAD - Genève, for an exceptional Talking Heads conference on Tuesday, January 26th at 7 pm. Lucinda Childs will be in conversation with David Zerbib, Professor of Visual Arts at HEAD - Genève.
