Symposium Fashion Curating

Exhibited Fashion

In the contemporary setting, fashion is emerging as a complex cultural phenomenon. Beyond the material dimension of its creation, it cannot be understood without analysing its links to the market, as well as sociological interpretations of fashion, and its exhibition.

Fashion curating, with its multiple presentations and still developing outlines, is a nascent and controversial practice. The relevance of showing, through exhibitions, how fashion has become established as an expression of contemporary aesthetics is self-evident to some, but still highly questionable to others. Fashion Curating: Exhibited Fashion is a one-day symposium that brings together freelance curators and directors of various institutions from different countries and sectors who are involved in curating fashion projects. In addition to a critical analysis of past exhibitions and events, selected contributions will place this emerging practice in context and discuss the relevant theoretical issues and methodological approaches.
