Probably A Dog
Zurich Design Week
“Probably A Dog” is an interactive installation exploring creative workflows where AI and artisanal practices meet. Created by Ekaterina Blizyuk as a diploma project in the MA Media Design program at HEAD – Genève, the installation stages a dialogue between the ceramic practice of French artist Lola Metz and digital technologies.
In its original form, the installation invites visitors to interact with a block of clay placed on a round table. Connected to a humidity sensor and an Arduino system, the clay responds to sprayed water by triggering digital mutations projected in real time within a virtual environment built with Unreal Engine 5. Physical gestures evolve into digital forms. The installation also includes 3D-printed ceramics, archival material, and documentary footage, creating a hybrid workshop where artist, artisan, and AI coexist.
For Zurich Design Weeks, the installation is shown in a non-interactive format, presenting the interaction through its generated forms.
Through this encounter, Probably A Dog proposes a future in which technologies learn from the rhythms of craft. By embracing slowness and resisting the pressure of fast-moving technological trends, the project imagines machines as collaborators that extend artistic practice.
