heart@geneva: Anaïs Balmon - Projet BIP
“Petites mains ont bien tapé” (Little hands typed well) is an intervention designed for the courtyard of Calvin Middle School by Anaïs Balmon, a bachelor's student in visual arts.
This project, commissioned by heart@Geneva for its 2019 program, was the subject of a semester-long research seminar and a competition.
+The Geneva college founded by Calvin, the city's first free educational institution, is a historic building with remarkable architecture.
Thinking about the tombs found in the courtyard during archaeological excavations, but also about the inscriptions on the Pioneer plaque sent into space, Anaïs Balmon created ceramic bricks engraved with patterns, which she embedded in the floor of the college courtyard.
With a digital feel and online games, she used earth, fire, and an ancestral technique to create seven bricks whose simple and enigmatic engravings refer to collective children's games.
The discreet intervention does not clutter the space but invites visitors to walk around it to enjoy seven different views of the building.
