According to the dictionary, a gift is “something given to a person to make them happy, especially on the occasion of a celebration or a joyful event”.

The 22 students of Option Construction (art et espaces, HEAD ‒ Genève) are travelling to Berlin. They travel by train and each student brings a gift from more than 1000 kilometres away to the students of Karsten Konrad's class (UdK Berlin). This may be an object, a sculpture, a text, perhaps a sound piece, a video, maybe a found object from the roadside, or even a bouquet of flowers. But the gift can also consist of a non-material ritual or a gesture that unfolds at the very moment of the encounter or even during the opening.
The gift becomes the centre of an artistic dialogue between people who do not yet know each other. It is about togetherness—shared in a symbolic act.
The exchange: gift and gift-receiving are transformed into art. Is there a counter-gift? Or is it about the packaging and unpacking? Or about transporting across borders? Or about the place of display and storage in an artistic context?

For a short moment, the gifts become works in an exhibition in the long SchauFenster showcase on Lobeckstrasse.
