LMC FRAMBOIS, 2024: Delia Dhraief et Milla Faivre - projet BIP

October 2024

Le jeu de 7, for the LMC FRAMBOIS court.

In addition to the political, ethical and aesthetic issues involved in creating a work of art for a detention centre, there are also security issues. But above all, how do you address people from very different cultures and languages who are just passing through?

Delia Dhraief and Milla Faivre, students in the Bachelor of Visual Arts programme and winners of the competition run by BIP, have responded to these questions by focusing on usage and bringing colour to the centre's courtyard.

To avoid cluttering up an already limited space, they chose to work on the 6 benches and a games table that were already there.

By redoing and tiling these useful elements, they opted for the rigour of geometric abstraction, which has a strong history in Switzerland. Playing on the grid, a fundamental element of modernity, and working with industrial materials, they concentrated on the choice and arrangement of colours. Without ostentation, this minimal chromatic intervention revives the existing, colouring what already occupies the place and the communal life. Everything is extremely precise, as is often the case with the simplest things.

Frambois, an establishment under the terms of the Concordat exclusively dedicated to the administrative detention of foreign nationals (preparatory phase detention and detention with a view to refoulement), has commissioned HEAD - Geneva to create a permanent artistic work in the secure courtyard of the Frambois establishment at 27 route de Satigny, 1214 Vernier.
